At Aligned Bar and Bat Mitzvah we are guided by two foundational truths:

One, humans inherently possess all available spiritual wisdom. Thus, we teach our students nothing new. We simply awaken within them that which, deep down, is already there.

Two, each human being is aligned with a unique sacred life purpose.

The Bar or Bat Mitzvah (BM) ceremony is an exciting initiation into a life of rediscovery and fulfillment. Rediscovery of one’s innate wisdom and fulfillment of one’s special purpose.

According to the Jewish mystical tradition an internal developmental leap occurs at around age 13 for boys, and around 12 for girls. That is, the higher soul, נשמה, Neshama, awakens to its role as guide and sovereign over the lower self, נפש, Nefesh.

Our experience shows that on the surface children mature physically and emotionally on vastly divergent schedules. Some sooner and others later. Yet, regardless of the self’s level of maturity when we lovingly expose our students to the language of the Sacred their soul absorbs it and is nourished.

The wisdom of the ages recognizes that puberty is high-time for sowing seeds of inner development. Thus, mindful rite-of-passage instruction followed by an embracing ceremony will shape the evolution of the child’s soul toward increasingly fuller and brighter expression as they continue on life’s path.

We aim to create an authentic ceremony experience by carefully listening for the child and family’s inner landscape, deeper values, and real needs. By maximizing creativity and customization we seek to harmonize with, and enhance, the child’s and parents’ spiritual path.

The student will meet weekly with the Rabbi on video conference, typically on Sundays for a 60 minute session. The child and family will use a shared online notebook (on Google Drive) for the student’s written work as well as for links to educational resources. Our basic program lasts for 15 tutorial sessions and does not include Hebrew language instruction. A 30 session track is available for those interested in basic Hebrew skills and a more thorough review of Jewish history (recommended). The learning is engaging, personalized, and curated to the child’s strengths and innate curiosity.
